Amanda Scott
1993-1996

On March 6, 1999, former Cougar pitcher Amanda Scott became the first female athlete at Clovis High School to have her uniform number retired.

Scott’s number 44 was retired at Cougar Park. The honor made her the third Clovis High athlete to have their number retired, joining former baseball standout Mark Gardner and soccer great Chad McCarty.

In 1993, her first season at CHS, Scott won 7 games and batted .368, while being named All-League and All-Valley. She followed her freshman campaign by going 24-3, while hitting .427. Her team won the Valley title that year and was ranked number 1 in the nation by USA Today. She was awarded All-League and Valley Player of the Year honors. She was further honored when she was named state Sophomore of the Year. Her junior year was just as spectacular as she led her team to the league title, while compiling 19 wins and a .429 batting average. Amanda was voted League Player of the Year and again, Valley Player of the Year, as well as All-State. In her final season as a Cougar, Scott put together arguable the best single -season in valley history. She set section records for wins with 31 and strikeouts with 405. On offense, she hit .392 with 36 RBI’s and 42 runs scored. She added 9 doubles, 6 triples, and another section record 9 home runs. Her post season honors included League, Valley, and State Player of the Year, as well becoming Clovis High first First Team All-American.

During her career, Amanda set section career records for wins (81), Strikeouts (1051), Shutouts (62), and No-hitters (24). Scott was additionally honored as Clovis High’s representative for the Junior League Award, as well as our B’nai Brith nominee.

After accepting a scholarship to Fresno State, Scott continued her stellar play.  Her list of honors and accomplishments include:

Led Fresno State to the 1998 NCAA title; Four-time All-American; NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Award winner; NCAA Top VIII Award winner; No. 1 pick in 2000 Women's Pro Softball League draft; Two-time GTE Academic All-American; Two-time Fresno State female athlete of the year- second female to be a multiple recipient; Two-time Joe Kearney Award winner (WAC female athlete of the year); Two-time All-College World Series (1998 MVP); Two-time NCAA ERA champion; Three-time team MVP; Three-time WAC Pitcher of the Year; 1997 WAC Freshman of the Year; 1999 WAC Tournament Championship MVP; Career record of 106-18 (.855) with 68 shutouts, 10saves, 871 innings, 851 strikeouts, and a 0.55 ERA;  NCAA postseason record of 13-6 with 93 strikeouts and a 0.74 ERA; Holds six WAC career marks in pitching and hitting - went 44-1 with 27 shutouts, six saves, 296 strikeouts, 292 2/3 innings, and a 0.38 ERA; Top 25 Central Valley's Greatest Athletes of the 20th Century; Led Fresno State to a 226-49 record with three NCAA Women's College World Series appearances.
